The well-maintained long curved lines of the front gardens serve to artfully complement the stacked stone architecture of the Nelson residence.  Curvilinear lines in landscapes create natural, flowing, and intimate spaces by utilizing sweeping curves and serpentine shapes, often mimicking nature to contrast with rigid, straight architectural lines. Common applications include meandering pathways, soft-edged garden beds and structural features like curved walls, which encourage exploration and movement. In the landscaping world, good lines mean good designs.

At the Nelson House, the use of Asian Jasmine groundcover forms a curvy line drawing the eye toward a stately white Natchez Crepe Myrtle that serves as a focal point guiding visitors toward the front door of the house.  Knockout Roses in both red and pink were used as a favorite flowering plant of Peggy’s.  Interspersed with the roses are Boxwoods and African Iris.  We were told that the well-shaped live oak in the back yard is most likely around 200 years old.
