PANTHER BASEBALL RUN-RULES TO BARTLETT TO WIN ONE-GAME AREA PLAYOFF

The Burton Panther Baseball Team made quick work of the Bartlett Bulldogs in their one-game Area Round playoff last (Thursday) night winning 15-1 in Mumford.

Bartlett struck first with a run in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead. After that, it was all Burton.

The Panthers put up eight runs in the top of the second inning. Rueben Rodriguez was hit by a pitch to start the frame. Ryder Biggs followed with an RBI triple that scored Rodriguez to tie the game at 1-1. Eli Jaeger followed with a single to score Biggs with the go-ahead run and make it 2-1 Burton.

Isaac Matthies laid down a bunt attempt and reached on an error as the catcher overthrew first base, and then on a second error by the rightfielder, Jaeger came around to score. Matthew Roemer sacrifice bunted Matthies to third base. The Panthers would then load the bases on back-to-back walks to Coy Gurka and Tyler Witt. Logun Tosta worked a bases loaded walk that scored Matthies and increased the Burton lead to 4-1.

Braydon Martin cleaned the bases off with a three-run triple. Easton Witt entered the game as a courtesy runner for Martin, and scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-1 Panthers.

Burton put the game away with seven more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Martin reached on an error by the third baseman, and later scored on an RBI single by Rodriguez. Next up, Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch to give Burton a 10-1 advantage.

Jaeger hit a double, Matthies singled, and Matthew Roemer walked to load the bases. Ashton Fuller came in to run for Jaeger, and scored on a wild pitch. Another wild pitch allowed Matthies to score, which made it 12-1 Panthers.

Witt extended the inning with a two-run single that brought in Roemer and Gurka. Witt later scored on an RBI single by Tosta that put Burton ahead 15-1.

The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule. The Panthers now advance to the Region Semifinals where they will face either Freer or Port Aransas next week.
