Kris Gordon (Hempstead ISD)

Hempstead Independent School District announces Kris Gordon as the new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. Gordon has more than 30 years of experience, and 15 of those years he has served as an athletic head coach and coordinator.

This spring, Gordon has served as the Interim Athletic Director, where he has already made a meaningful impact through his leadership, commitment to student-athletes, and dedication to strengthening the culture of the athletic program. In addition to overseeing athletic operations, he has built strong relationships with students, coaches, staff, and families across the district.

“Over the last few months, Coach Gordon has worked tirelessly to support our student-athletes, strengthening relationships across our programs and creating a culture focused on character, accountability, and excellence,” Hempstead ISD Superintendent Herbert O’Neil said. “We are excited about the future of our athletic programs under his leadership and confident in the positive impact he will continue to make on our students both on and off the field.”

As Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, Gordon will oversee all aspects of the Bobcat Athletics program while continuing to focus on developing well-rounded student-athletes.

“Stepping into the role of the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach is both an honor and a responsibility I take seriously,” Gordon explains. “This is more than building a program; it’s about shaping young men and women through discipline, accountability, and pride in their community. I’m excited to build something special here, rooted in hard work, unity, and a commitment to excellence both on and off the field.”

Before becoming a teacher and coach, Gordon received his bachelor's degree from Langston University and earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Texas - Arlington.

During the 2025-2026 athletic season, he served as the Defensive Coordinator, Defensive Line Coach, Head Track and Field Coach, and Powerlifting Coach. Before joining the Bobcats, Gordon served as the Splendora High School Defensive Line Coach/Co-defensive Coordinator and the Spring Woods High School Head Track Coach and Defensive Coordinator.
