WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO TAKE UP FALL 2026 HOT FUND REQUESTS

Washington County Commissioners will meet Tuesday to consider recommendations for hotel occupancy tax (HOT) grant funding disbursements for the fall.

HOT funds are awarded twice a year to local tourism organizations to support their operations or assist with promoting special events.  Funding amounts are determined by the county’s HOT fund committee, with a typical budget of $25,000 per cycle.

In December, the court allocated $45,400 in HOT funds fulfilling seven requests, coming from five organizations, for spring 2026.

This funding cycle is the first where applicants used a new online portal to submit applications, handle post-event reports and keep track of announcements and updates.

Commissioners will then take up three items related to the Stars Over Washington County 4th of July event.  They include a $10,000 deposit payment from HOT funds to Celestial Displays, LLC for a fireworks display; a $9,500 musical performance contract paid with HOT funds to Escape, a Journey tribute group; and a request for proposals for alcohol bartending services.

Also on Tuesday, commissioners will:

  • Vote on authorizing the submission of a cancellation request to APCO International, Inc. for termination of the APCO IntelliComm software.
  • Consider a price increase from MEC Logistics, LLC for the contract of road construction materials awarded December 16, 2025.
  • Accept a $1,000 donation from Mike and Mamie Mushaway to the sheriff’s office.
  • Act on a final plat for the Estates at Mount Vernon subdivision, consisting of nine lots along Old Gay Hill Road and Mount Vernon Road in Precinct 3.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
