BRENHAM’S JAKOBY DIXON COMMITS TO THE OKLAHOMA SOONERS

Brenham Cub RB Jakoby Dixon has made his college decision. Dixon announced his commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners.

Dixon had numerous offers from other schools including both the Aggies and the Longhorns, but says he ultimately chose Oklahoma after a visit with their RB Coach Deland McCullough.

According to SoonerScoops.com, Dixon said that Coach McCullough came to Brenham, and laid out plans for what his future would look like with the team. That was something no other coach did.

As a freshman, Dixon won the District 10-5A Division II Offensive MVP after a year that saw him have 133 carries for 1,181 rushing yards, and 14 touchdowns. He also caught 34 passes for 502 yards and five touchdowns.

In his sophomore year, Dixon was the Overall District MVP, he carried the ball 249 times for 2,248 yards and 32 touchdowns. He also caught 22 catches for 270 yards, and two touchdowns. Dixon also threw for a touchdown pass that year as well.

During his sophomore year, Dixon tied Earnest Patterson's school record with 35 touchdowns in a season, and he set a new school record with 226 points in a season.

Dixon is also third in career rushing with 3,430 yards where he needs 261 yards to surpass Roosevelt Leaks for second place, and he is fourth in career touchdowns with 54 only one behind Leaks and Matt Murski.

During his junior season, Dixon left for the John Cooper School in the Woodlands, where he saw limited playing time. While there, he only had 22 carries for 140 yards, and three touchdowns.

Dixon returned to Brenham for the Spring Semester. Since returning, Cub Head Football Coach Danny Youngs said that Dixon has worked really hard and has had a great attitude.

During spring football workouts, he was named as the "Top Cub."

Dixon's senior season with the Cubs will kick off on Friday, August 28, at 7pm with the Huntsville Hornets visiting Cub Stadium.
