BURTON PANTHERS NAMED TO ALL STATE TOURNAMENT TEAM
Fresh off winning their first State Championship in 39 years, the Burton Panther Baseball Team placed five players on the UIL State Championship Tournament Team.
They include: P Tyler Witt, 1B Eli Jaeger, CF Rueben Rodriguez, RF Coy Gurka, and DH Isaac Matthies.
Witt was the Championship Game's MVP. He pitched seven innings, allowed five hits, one earned run, and struck out six batters to get the win.
Witt also went 2-4 at the plate with a single, a triple, and he scored two runs as well.
Jaeger, the first baseman, was 3-3 at the plate, with three singles and two RBIS. He also played some great defense at first base.
Rodriguez, the centerfielder, drove in one of the runs on a sacrifice fly, and brought another run home when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. In addition to that, he made the catch in the top of the seventh inning that sealed the State Championship victory.
Matthies, the designated hitter, had a pair of singles, and drove in a run.
Coy Gurka, the rightfielder, went 1-3 at the plate with a single, and he had a couple of big catches on defense as well.
