DPS SGT. JUSTIN RUIZ RECEIVES LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAFFIC SAFETY EXCELLENCE AWARD
Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Justin Ruiz is being recognized for his efforts to improve and increase awareness of traffic safety.

Ruiz, who has served as the public information officer for the DPS-Bryan District since 2021, was presented the Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Excellence Award at the Texas Department of Transportation’s Traffic Safety Conference this week in Addison.
In a social media post announcing the award, DPS said Ruiz earned the recognition through his “outstanding commitment to traffic safety.” He was selected for the honor by TxDOT traffic safety specialists within his region.
DPS said Ruiz played a major part in coordinating and conducting three Shattered Dreams programs in a single year, helping educate young drivers about the life-changing consequences of impaired and distracted driving.
In addition, Ruiz frequently joins KWHI on the air for the Safety Talk program, educating and informing listeners about traffic laws and safety.
Ruiz attended George Bush High School in Fort Bend ISD and served in the U.S. Army for four years. He took college courses while in the U.S. Army and obtained a Criminal Justice degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. He was a member of DPS’ June 2014 graduating class.
