BRENHAM POLICE ARREST THREE AFTER FINDING 18 KILOS OF METH DURING TRAFFIC STOP

  

Three Austin-area men face drug charges in Brenham after a traffic stop on Friday led to a bust for methamphetamine and cocaine.

Brenham Police Sergeant Jimmy Ha and K9 partner Maki stopped a vehicle on West Main Street near the intersection of Munz Street.

During the stop, police say the occupants of the vehicle provided inconsistent statements.  Sgt. Ha deployed Maki to conduct a free-air sniff of the vehicle, and Maki alerted to the odor of narcotics, which led to a probable cause search of the vehicle.

Sgt. Ha and investigators from the department’s DICE Unit reported finding approximately 18 kilograms of methamphetamine. 

40-year-old Mark Sosa of Austin, 42-year-old David Cantu of Hutto and 61-year-old Michael Ponce of Manor were arrested and charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, 400 Grams or More.

Police also reported finding approximately 7 grams of cocaine on Ponce’s person, and he was found to have an active warrant through Pardons and Paroles for Possession of a Dangerous Drug.  He was additionally charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, 4-200 Grams.

All three subjects were taken to the Washington County Jail.
