Blinn College opened its 2026 season with a 3-1 loss to Butler Community College in a neutral-site, non-region matchup Thursday in Corsicana.

Freshman forward Amanda Millar gave the Buccaneers an early lead after scoring an unassisted goal in the second minute. Butler responded with two tallies before halftime to take a 2-1 advantage into the intermission.

The Grizzlies added an insurance goal in the second half to secure the victory and drop Blinn to 0-1 on the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Reese Cauthen made seven saves in the loss. Butler finished with 16 shots, while Blinn managed five.

Blinn head coach Alexandria Jackson said the Bucs’ early lead made the loss particularly difficult, while taking responsibility for the result.

“To go up a goal early and lose the game hurts a lot, but at the end of the day it’s on me as a coach,” Jackson said.

Jackson said the Bucs experimented with some changes Thursday but plans to return to the style that has defined the team.

“We attempted to try new things when the way we play shouldn’t change,” Jackson said. “We are who we are. We will bounce back and go again this Saturday.”

Blinn will look to even its record when it hosts North American University for its home opener at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Hohlt Park in Brenham, Texas.
