CUB FOOTBALL OPENS DISTRICT WITH A WIN ON DIXON’S RECORD SETTING NIGHT
The Brenham Cub Football Team continued to dominate the competition on the season with a 59-0 win over the Waco University Trojans on Friday Night.
The evening also marked a record setting night for Jakoby Dixon, who became Brenham High School's All Time Leading Scorer. Dixon is up to 404 career points as he surpassed Ernest Patterson, who scored 402 points from 2012-2014.
Dixon got the scoring started with a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He also ran in the two-point conversion to give the Cubs an 8-0 lead at the 8:38 mark.
On their second drive, C.J. Glover crossed the goal line on a four-yard run, and Bleu Cienega added the extra point to give Brenham a 15-0 advantage with 6:23 left in the first quarter.
The game stayed that way until late in the second quarter when the Cubs tacked on three scores in just a little over three minutes. Dixon had a four-yard touchdown run with 3:06 left until halftime to increase it to 22-0, Brenham.
On special teams, Quincy Adams blocked a punt and returned it for touchdown. That was followed on defense by Owen Robinson sacking the quarterback in the end zone for a safety to give the Cubs a 31-0 lead at halftime.
Dixon started the third quarter by scoring on a one-yard touchdown run out of the "Wildcub" formation, which turned out to be the record setter. That put Brenham ahead 38-0 with nine minutes left. Dixon finished the night with 19 carries for 132 yards and three touchdowns.
Ledrick Walker Jr. got in on the scoring with a five-yard touchdown run at the 2:25 mark in the third quarter to make it a 45-0 advantage for the Cubs.
While the night belonged to Dixon, Glover ended up with the longest run of the evening in the fourth quarter as he scored from 49-yards out to expand Brenham's lead to 52-0.
Briley Jasinski rounded out the scoring by returning an interception for a touchdown to make it 59-0 in favor of the Cubs.
Brenham outgained University in yardage 370 to 57.
With the win, the Cubs are now 6-0 on the season, and 1-0 in district.
Next up, they will be on the road at the Rudder Rangers this coming Friday night. Rudder is coming off a 42-15 loss to Belton.
