Speaking Thursday night at the historic Ant Street Inn in downtown Brenham, Durrenberger told the crowd that he believes in taking care of his employees first.  Durrenberger said he owned and operated his own businesses for 20 years before joining Mike Hopkins Distributing, and “knows what it takes to meet payroll”.  He said, “My business experience has prepared me to manage the county budget and personnel, and has instilled in me sound business principle and an understanding of managing departments as a team.”

Durrenberger also told the audience that his is passionate about listening, open and honest communications, and working with all elected officials, department leaders, Burton and Brenham city officials, and community leaders throughout the county.  He said civic and volunteer organizations and volunteer fire departments are all important to him, as he has been a member of many of them.  Durrenberger concluded by saying he looks forward to the upcoming candidate forums, one on one visits and opportunities to visit with each voter.

Durrenberger will face current Washington County Judge John Brieden in the March 6th Republican Primary.

  1. Great and truly an elegant party. Thank you for running and for understanding that we cannot keeep financially starving our county government. When places like our Sheriff Office need more funding then we need someone new in the courthouse who is strong enough to do the right thing and raise more tax revenue from time to time. A county judge must recognize that this region now has many very successful landowners who are deserving of the best county services. If that means a little more in property taxes, so be it. We need progressive new leadership to provide excellence for our county.

People who are now moving to Washington County expect and want a judge to deliver the same levels of county services that landowners received back in Houston or Austin or other successful real estate markets.

It’s time for a change in how we run county government, and the county must look at how the City of Brenham is bold enough to spend money whenever it’s truly needed. Let’s take that same boldness to our county budget.

  2. thank you Mr Durrenberger for your courage and commitment to Washington county to run for Judge, Best of luck to you. You have our vote of confidence .
