ALL MY SONS COMING TO UNITY THEATRE IN FEBRUARY
All My Sons is the dramatic story of one family’s dark secret and the toll it takes in a collision of ethics, loyalties and love. It plays on the Unity Theatre main stage February 1 – 18, 2018.
In 1947, Arthur Miller exploded onto Broadway with his first major work, All My Sons, winning both the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best New Play and the Tony Award for Best Author. This intense drama concerns the relationships between fathers and sons and the conflict between business and personal ethics. Joe Keller and Steve Deever, partners in a machine shop during World War II, turned out defective airplane parts, causing the deaths of many men. Deever was sent to prison while Keller went back to business, making himself very wealthy in the ensuing years. A love affair between Keller’s son, Chris, and Ann Deever, Steve’s daughter; and the bitterness of George Deever, her brother who returns from the war to find his father in prison and his father’s partner free; escalates them toward a climax of electrifying intensity.
Unity Theatre’s Executive Artistic Director, Kate Revnell-Smith, will direct this show. She’s directed many Unity favorites including The Diary of Anne Frank, A Piece of My Heart, The Miracle Worker, Steel Magnolias, Laundry and Bourbon, and many more. Kate is “thrilled to be working with such a remarkable group of actors on this timeless drama” and is “very excited to bring this thought provoking American classic to life”.
The cast features Actor’s Equity Association Member, James Belcher (Freud’s Last Session, Deathtrap) as Joe Keller, Jamie Ward (The Diary of Anne Frank, Little Women: The Musical, A Piece of My Heart, The Miracle Worker, among others) as Kate Keller, and Benjamin McLaughlin (Leading Ladies) as Chris Keller. Also returning to the Unity stage are Justin O’Brien (Leading Ladies, Chapter Two, The Taming of the Shrew) as George Deever, Rob de los Reyes (The Chalk Garden, Charley’s Aunt, The Importance of Being Earnest, Enchanted April) as Dr. Jim Bayliss, Susan Draper (Blithe Spirit, Chapter Two, Deathtrap, Laundry & Bourbon) as Sue Bayliss, and Shelby Bray Fisher (A Grand Night for Singing, Little Women: The Musical) as Lydia Lubey. Ellen Dyer and Zachary Braver make their Unity Theatre debuts as Ann Deever and Frank Lubey. Conner Sloan, who recently performed as Claude Herdman in Unity’s production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever will portray young Bert.
The production designers are artists that have worked on many productions at Unity. The team consists of Torsten Louis (Set Design), David Gipson (Lighting Design), Kris Hanssen (Costume Design) and Bryan Ealey (Sound Design).
