TXDOT MAKES AN ANTI-DRUNK DRIVING APPEAL TO HISPANIC DRIVERS

TxDot wants to reach out to the Hispanic community in a special ‘Drink, Drive, Go to Jail’ promotion.

That’s why they are  introducing  ‘Drink, Drive, Go to Jail’ campaign that uses a bilingual, culturally relevant campaign aimed at encouraging  Hispanic drivers, and others, never to drink and drive.

The program begins May 5th, Cinco De Mayo, with a campaign features a touring interactive truck, themed with imagery inspired by Loteria, a Mexican game of chance similar to bingo, that will visit selected cities to invite people to play a gamne that reminds them not to drink and drive.

In 2013, there were over 25,000 DUI alcohol related crashes in Texas, resulting in 8702 serious injuries and 1022 deaths.  Of those DUI alcohol related  crashes, nearly 12,000, or nearly 37n percent involved an Hispanic driver.

An announcement from TxDot says they are working diligently to educate the public in order to reverse those disturbing statistics.  TxDot is partnering with the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce on this campaign.

While this particular campaign is aimed at Hispanic drivers, the Drink, Drive and Go To Jail, is in effect for all of the state of Texas. Also in effect for the entire state is ‘Talk, Text, Crash’ during the same time.
