LaVerne Krumrey was presented the Lone Star Lions Eye Bank’s Celeste and Harrison Shepherd Fellowship at the club’s meeting Monday.
The Shepherd Fellowship is awarded to individuals that have distinguished themselves through service to saving eyesight. The Fellowship is named for Celeste and Harrison Shepherd, long time Lions Eye Bank supporters.
This is the first Shepherd Fellowship awarded to the Washington County Ladies Lions.
In 1925, Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become the “Knights to the Blind”. In 1974, Central Texas Lions created the Lone Star Lions Eye Bank, which moved in 2001 to Manor. There, they operate year-round, providing eye tissue to transplant surgeons.
