Don Koester has announced he will run for re-election as Washington County Commissioner of Precinct One.

Koester, running as a Republican, first took office January 1, 2017. He said it has been an honor to serve the county and its residents, and he hopes to be able to continue serving all people in the county.

A lifelong resident of Washington County, Koester retired in 2005 after 32 years from Sears Roebuck and Co. in the service industry. Since his retirement, he has owned Don’s Appliance and has trained several service technicians.

Koester said, moving forward, he hopes he can better express his opinions and be more involved in commissioners court.

Koester said he wants to take the opportunity to meet with constituents and hear what they have to say.

Koester is a member of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, the Texas Quality Water Association, and a former member of the Brenham Volunteer Fire Department. He also serves as a board member of the Washington County Historical Commission.

Koester’s campaign treasurer will be Jomaye Zeiss Schmidt, who retired from Moorman Tate law firm and has experience with several campaigns, including the election of former College Station Mayor Nancy Berry.
