STATE FIRE MARSHAL NOW INVESTIGATING NAVASOTA FUNERAL HOME FIRE
Investigation into a fire at an old funeral home in Navasota is now being led by the State Fire Marshal.
Navasota fire officials say the cause of Monday night’s fire at the former Jones Funeral Home, which was set to go up for tax auction Tuesday, has yet to be determined.
Investigation into the fire began Wednesday and, according to Navasota authorities, is expected to continue through today (Thursday) with several interviews.
The funeral home has not been in operation for several years. According to a Grimes County tax collector, taxes had not been paid on the property since 2012, leading to a balance of over $26,000, including court costs.
Authorities have confirmed the owner of the property is Lonnie Turner, Jr., the son of Lonnie Turner, Sr. Turner, Sr. previously operated the funeral home before he was murdered at his home in Navasota in the early 2000s.
