WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO REVISIT LOCAL DISASTER DECLARATION
Washington County Commissioners will take up action Tuesday on the county’s recently issued local disaster declaration.
Wednesday, County Judge John Durrenberger signed a seven-day local state of disaster declaration due to the public health emergency of COVID-19. The declaration was discussed in an emergency meeting Thursday of Washington County Commissioners, who opted to table an extension of the agreement through May 31st.
Also in session Tuesday, the court will act on approval of an AirMedCare Network municipal site membership for the county, as well as a preferred provider agreement between Baylor Scott and White and Washington County EMS.
Commissioners will also meet in executive session to discuss economic development negotiations with Brenham Economic Development Director Susan Cates, before reopening regular session to take any action discussed. Brenham and Washington County have approved their ends of an interlocal agreement that allows Cates to speak with commissioners in executive session.
Cates previously talked with commissioners about an ongoing economic development project called “Silver Crayon”, but was unable to speak much on it in open session, stating it is still a “confidential and competitive project”.
Commissioners will also consider:
- Appointing Durrenberger and Commissioner Joy Fuchs as co-agents to make decisions regarding the Tom Green County school lands and Concho Valley Solar.
- Authorization to refinance two new motor graders currently financed through Deere Credit, Inc.
- A request to allocate IT Machinery and Equipment budget for the purchase of a network attached storage device for video storage.
- Monthly reports from several county departments and offices.
Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., at the Washington County Courthouse.
What is this “Silver Crayon” nonsense? New retirement community with daycare for grandkids? RV park for retired artists? This can’t be serious, are we really using “code names” for local projects now?
There was a news story on this KWHI website last year about Silver Crayon that described it as a manufacturing facility for oil and gas industry products.
May be developer not wanting public knowledge That might drive up their cost of development?
Never have heard or seen government agencies not willing to give details of a future development or business. Taxpayers deserve to know when public meetings involve decisions that involve the community of the taxpayers. These actions by the government are not transparent and leads to further distrust of government by the taxpayers.
