BIG TRASH, RECYCLING COLLECTION BEGINS MONDAY

After months of discussion, contract negotiation, and preparation, the responsibility of trash and recycling pickup of Brenham residents shifts today (Monday) from the City of Brenham to Brannon Industrial Group (BIG).

The transition of sanitation services from the city to BIG completed over the weekend, and the company will begin collecting Brenham residents’ garbage and recycling starting today.  The company will also begin operating the collection/transfer station on Old Chappell Hill Road.

BIG distributed new garbage and recycling carts to residents from mid to late April, along with a flyer explaining their garbage and recycling pickup schedules.

The Brenham City Council at its meeting Thursday approved the first reading of updates to the city’s garbage and trash ordinance, reflecting BIG as the new provider of sanitation services.  The council also approved the first reading of an ordinance amending the rate tariff schedule for the city’s sanitation rates, to reflect the city’s new contract with BIG, also known as Brazos Valley Waste and Recycling (BVR).

Details on the ordinance are available from Thursday's council packet, which can be seen here.

Information on proper cart placement, accepted garbage and recycling, collection schedules, and monthly rates is available online at www.cityofbrenham.org.
