BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO ISSUE VOTE ON FINAL ADOPTION OF TAX RATE

The Burton City Council will consider final adoption of the city’s tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year at a teleconference meeting this (Tuesday) afternoon.

The council will first hold a public hearing before voting to adopt a rate of 50 cents per $100 valuation.

While the overall rate is the same as last year’s, the allocation of the rate is slightly changed.  The new rate is made up of 10.25 cents for maintenance and operations (M&O) and 39.75 cents for debt service (I&S), while 2019 had a M&O rate of 10 cents and an I&S rate of 40 cents.

Also at today’s meeting, councilmembers will consider a slate of items all related to the city’s application process for the General Land Office’s (GLO) Community Development Block Grant – Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) program.  The council will seek passage of a resolution authorizing a grant application to the GLO, adoption of a citizen participation plan policy for the grant programs, approval of a financial management policy, and adoption of a procurement policy and procedures.

The council will also consider:

  • Approval of the 2019-20 Fiscal Year audit as presented by Medack and Oltmann, LLP.
  • The hiring of Schneider Consulting Services to provide code compliance services.
  • Choosing incumbent candidates for election to the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool Board of Trustees and authorize and direct the mayor of Burton to execute the official ballot.

The council will meet this afternoon at 5:30 p.m.  Due to lack of space at Burton City Hall, the meeting will only be open to the public via conference call.  The call-in information is available below.
