COLUMBUS STUDENT PLAYING VOLLEYBALL AGAIN AFTER LOSING PART OF FOOT IN ATV ACCIDENT

A student in Columbus is playing volleyball again after an ATV accident which took half of her left foot.

Madalene Edmiston, currently a freshman at Columbus High School, suffered the injury over Memorial Day weekend while riding an ATV with her friend.  The ATV swerved and drifted before rolling over and flipping three times, landing on Edmiston’s foot.

The two drove the ATV back to the friend’s house, where Edmiston was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann in Houston.  She spent several days in the hospital and underwent three surgeries before returning home.

After completing physical therapy, Edmiston and her family traveled to the state of Washington to get a specially designed prosthetic so she could continue to play sports again.  She came back to school for the return of in-person classes, and was able to play volleyball in the fall season.

Edmiston has been fully cleared by doctors, who say they are impressed by her quick recovery and her determination.

The Houston Chronicle recently profiled Edmiston’s journey to recovery.  Her story can be read in the December 31st edition of the paper, or online at www.houstonchronicle.com.
