BRENHAM POLICE OFFER TIPS AS ‘CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY’ BEGINS
With the passage of the new “constitutional carry” bill, Brenham police are offering tips to the public on proper gun procedures.
House Bill 1927 went into effect today (Wednesday), allowing anyone over 21 who can legally possess a firearm in Texas to openly carry a handgun without a permit.
Brenham Police Captain Lloyd Powell said there are a few things new gun owners should keep in mind. One lesson he stressed was open communication, especially if the gun owner is pulled over by police.
Cpt. Powell said gun owners still need to obey existing rules of where firearms can and cannot be taken.
Cpt. Powell said while there are those who worry about the passage of the bill, he believes the police department will be able to carry on business as it has been.
The firearms bill is one of 666 new laws in Texas as of today. Click here to read more about the new laws.
