A detective with the Brenham Police Department has been promoted to sergeant.

Ashley Burns was promoted this (Monday) morning, with Chief Ron Parker administering her oath of office and issuing the gold badge.

Burns has been with the Brenham Police Department since August 2013, where she started her career in the patrol division before being promoted to corporal and eventually transferred to detective.  She also serves as a negotiator, field training officer and mental health officer.

This year, Burns was selected as a liaison to the 21st Judicial District Domestic Violence High Risk Team, received a Chief’s Commendation and recognition from State Representative Ben Leman’s office for being instrumental in multiple felony investigations.  She was also selected as Officer of the Year at the Buddy Wright American Legion Post.

Burns is currently attending Sam Houston State University, where she is pursuing a criminal justice degree.  She lives in Washington County with her husband and daughter.

The police department will schedule a formal presentation with Burns at an upcoming council session.
