SCIENTIST, ATTORNEY, FUNERAL DIRECTOR BOOKER T. HOGAN, JR. DIES
A renowned scientist and attorney, and the owner and operator of a Brenham funeral home, has died.

Booker T. Hogan, Jr. died Friday at the age of 86.
Hogan was the third generation owner of the 107-year-old Hogan Funeral Home, which was designated as a historical landmark in 2007.
A 1952 graduate of Pickard High School, Hogan obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a Doctorate in Jurisprudence from Southwestern University School of Law. As a scientist, he completed postgraduate courses in colloidal and polymer chemistry, chemical thermodynamics and nuclear chemistry. He also studied the industrial use of radio isotopes and rocket propulsion fundamentals.
Hogan was selected as the Outstanding Scientific Graduate from Prairie View A&M in 1957, and “Ebony” magazine recognized him for his contributions to national defense efforts.
Hogan also enjoyed a successful law career. He was admitted to practice before the Texas Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court, the U.S. Patent Office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
In 2014, Hogan was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Brenham ISD.
Viewing will be held Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at New Life Church of God in Brenham. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.
