SCOUTING EXHIBIT, NEW BOARD MEMBERS AT BRENHAM HERITAGE MUSEUM
The Brenham Heritage Museum opens a new exhibit in its Bus Depot Gallery this weekend, and has also announced the addition of several new board members.
Entitled Scouting Washington County, the limited time exhibit opens on Saturday, taking a look at the history of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in the area. Visitors will see a variety of photographs and artifacts from multiple troops in the county.
The museum’s permanent collection includes scouting items from troops in Brenham and Burton. Among the items will be souvenirs from national jamboree trips led by the late Dr. Wilfred Dietrich, a scoutmaster and one of the museum’s founders. Camping by both girls and boys will be explored through historic photographs and artifacts. There will also be highlights of the role of scouts in the history of Maifest.
The scouting exhibit will run through May 28th, the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Hours at the Bus Depot Gallery at 313 East Alamo Street are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday, with other times available by appointment.
Last week, the museum added new board member Donald Ahrens. Two months prior, Brad Tegeler and Phillip Van Dorf joined the board.
Tegeler is general counsel and part of the management team at his family’s auto dealerships in Brenham and Sealy. Phillip Van Dorf is an office adjuster at Germania Insurance. Don Ahrens is retired after a long career in leadership at Germania Insurance, and is also a director at the Washington County Fair.
The museum continues renovations at the old post office building in downtown. It is planned to reopen at the end of this summer. The capital campaign for the project continues, and the museum is seeking corporate and individual partners. Naming rights are available.
