TEXAS LEADERS ANNOUNCE RECORD $100 BILLION TRANSPORTATION PLAN
Governor Greg Abbott on Thursday announced a record 10-year, $100 billion statewide roadway construction plan with TxDOT.
The proposed 2024 Unified Transportation Program (UTP) is estimated to be $15 billion more than the 2023 UTP. According to a release from the Governor’s Office, the plan is primarily based on the record projected revenue from state sources.
The UTP is a planning document that guides the development of transportation projects across the state. It also identifies public transportation, maritime, aviation and rail investments.
UTP projects are selected by TxDOT and local transportation leaders based on their ability to improve safety, pavement condition, capacity, and rural connectivity. Public input is received at both the state and local levels.
Abbott said under the 2024 UTP, the state “will dedicate critical funds to bolster our major roadway infrastructure to address the unique needs of Texans in rural, urban, and metropolitan communities.”
Several regional road improvement projects are accounted for in 2023’s UTP, including the Highway 290-Highway 36 cloverleaf interchange in Brenham. Construction on that project is anticipated to start in 2026.
The 290/36 exchange still 3 years away???? This is a major problem not only for the community but for soooo many travelers. Wonder whose palm needs to be greased to get it speeded up? All along 299 you see major improvements done, without all this delay, because of development…why can’t this be fixed??
Couldn’t help but laugh at this. Let’s see, I could get married, have two kids, move to a new city to begin a new career, buy a house, sell the house in that place, move to a new city, buy yet another house, and my kids would be walking/talking…all before the construction even began in Brenham on this cloverleaf. Hilarious, I tell ya!
