WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO DISCUSS JAIL MEDICAL SERVICES CONTRACT
Washington County’s contract with its medical provider at the jail will be among the subjects of Tuesday’s county commissioners meeting.
The court will act on the county’s contract with the private company, CorrHealth. The inmate healthcare services agreement between the two began in June 2021.
County Judge John Durrenberger said the item up for consideration will involve “discussing and possibly approving an adjustment in price for services rendered.”
Prior to CorrHealth, the county utilized the services of Dr. Stuart Yoffe as an interim jail medical director. This came after the former medical director at the jail, the late Dr. Robert Stark, was disallowed by Sheriff Otto Hanak from entering the jail to treat inmates.
During that dispute in 2020, Washington County EMS was being dispatched to the jail whenever an inmate had a medical issue. EMS would either treat them at the jail or transport them to the emergency room at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Brenham.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, commissioners will hear several reports, including a presentation from Washington County First Responder Association President Mark Pennybacker, the sheriff’s office’s monthly report and an economic development quarterly update.
In other items, the court will:
- Consider the county’s election services contracts with the City of Brenham, Brenham ISD, City of Burton, Burton ISD, Blinn College District and Giddings ISD for the May 6th election.
- Act on the approval of a residential development of a 115.41 acre private subdivision on FM 1155 East, Childress Ranch Estates subdivision in Precinct 1.
Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
