AUSTIN COUNTY SHERIFF’S AWARDED SHIELDS

Austin County Sheriff’s Deputies, who work as school resource officers in Bellville ISD, will be getting some extra protection thanks to a state grant.

Through a grant provided by the Texas Governor’s Public Safety Office,  the Austin County Sheriff’s Office is providing its deputies, who work part time as School Resources Officers (SROs), with bullet-resistant shields.

According to Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes, the shields will be secured in the SRO office of each of the main Bellville School campuses.

Brandes said that his department will never stop doing everything they can to ensure that children remain as safe as possible.

He added that they will continue searching for any and all opportunities to ensure all schools within Austin County remain secure learning environments.

Bellville ISD Director of Administrative Operations, Dr. Michael Coopersmith said that he is extremely pleased that the Austin County Sheriff’s Office was able to supply its deputy SROs with these shields.

He thanked the Texas Governor’s Public Safety Office for giving their approval, and Sheriff Brandes for his office’s work putting together the grant application.
