Officer Program.

Two members of the Brenham Police Department were commended for their accomplishments during the Brenham City Council’s meeting on Thursday.

Sergeant Steven Eilert received a certificate from the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA) for successful completion of the Law Enforcement Command Officer Program (LECOP).  Sgt. Eilert is the 45th honoree since the first award recipient in 2021.

TPCA Director of Training Mike Gentry, who formerly served in the Brenham Police Department from 1982-1987, presented Sgt. Eilert with the certificate, saying he distinguished himself throughout the leadership training program.

The program is meant to provide leadership development through various courses where participants apply the principles they learn to specific assignments in law enforcement, like managing patrols and traffic, criminal investigations and special operations.  The classes prepare individuals to rise through law enforcement ranks into command roles by building courage, character and positive leadership cultures.

Sgt. Eilert said he learned a great deal through the program and that it has made him a better officer.

The council also recognized Lloyd Powell, who was sworn in by Judge John D. Winkelmann as the police department’s assistant chief.  Powell’s promotion was first announced last week

In addition, three new officers were introduced to the department.  They are Lauren Vieceli, Le’Darion Jenkins and Stephen Mosley.

Chief Ron Parker said the future looks bright for the Brenham Police Department and for the city.
