LAGRANGE RESIDENTS COULD SEE GARBAGE RATE HIKE
Residents in the City of La Grange could soon be seeing their garbage rates going up.
According to an article in the Fayette County Record, Waste Management has asked the La Grange City Council to raise the rates by ten percent.
Under their current contract, which expires in 2026, Waste Management can raise the rates no more than five percent annually. Anything more has to be signed off on by the City Council.
In making his case to council members, Waste Management Senior Account Executive Matt Myers said that between 2020 and 2022, they have seen a 106% increase in fuel costs, and a 21% increase in labor costs.
Myers explained that the reason for the labor increase has been because in order to hire and retain better workers they have had to pay more.
The Record article further states that if approved, the residential rates would go from $21.83 per month to $24.01 per month. Meanwhile, the rate for an extra cart would go from $6 per month to $6.60 per month.
The Council took no action on the request. City Manager Fred Bell said that he and the city staff will develop a recommendation to present at a future meeting.
