The Brenham Cubette and Burton Lady Panther Volleyball Teams took the court for the first time in 2023 as they participated in scrimmages.

The Brenham Cubettes participated in a three team scrimmage that included Waller and Leon. Leon is coming off of a state semifinal appearance last season.

In discussing the Cubette's performance, Head Coach Megan Whalen said, "We focused on aggressive serves, and keeping the other teams out of system."

She added, "We capitalized on free balls and handled our own out of system balls well. We also got to see a variety of hitters in different positions, which confirmed how versatile this group (of Cubettes) is."

The Cubettes are in Katy today (Saturday) for more scrimmage action. They will open the season on Monday with a pair of games at Bryan High School.

Brenham will face Klein in the opener at 1:30pm, and then they face off against the Bryan Lady Vikings at 3pm.

Meanwhile, the Burton Lady Panthers traveled to Giddings for a four-team scrimmage that also included Round Top-Carmine and Anderson-Shiro.

First year Head Coach Blaire Smith said that they have some kinks to work out, but overall they were excited to be back on the court with an amazing group.

The Lady Panthers open the season on Tuesday night with a home game against Lexington. The JV gets underway at 5pm, with the Varsity to follow.
