Parker announced his plans in January to retire this month. His law enforcement career extends over 35 years, including the past four as chief of the Brenham Police Department after joining in March 2020.
Several officials shared comments reflecting on their experiences with Parker and wishing him well. City Manager Carolyn Miller said Parker was greatly helpful to her as she began her service as city manager two years ago.

Miller then presented Parker with a gift from Blinn College Police Chief John Chancellor: a miniature replica of Parker’s police SUV he drove during his time as Brenham’s police chief.
Washington County District Attorney Julie Renken called Parker a “great man” and a “servant leader,” adding that he has adapted well to the challenges that have come along with the many changes in law enforcement throughout his career.

Mayor Atwood Kenjura said the city was truly lucky to have Parker, and that he “made Brenham a better place.”
Parker said it was “an honor and a privilege” to lead the Brenham Police Department.
Parker has fought several health issues dating back to March 2023, when he was hospitalized after suffering a stroke. Lloyd Powell has served as the department’s acting chief in Parker’s absence. Both Miller and Renken offered their prayers to Parker and his family as he continues his recovery.
Following the council meeting, a reception for Parker was held at the Brenham Police Department.
In other matters involving Brenham police, two officers were congratulated on achieving new ranks. Jose Perez was promoted to sergeant, and Tiffany Anderson was promoted to corporal.
