ROUND TOP MAKING PREPARATIONS FOR 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION
The town of Round Top is planning for its 174th edition of 4th of July festivities.
Known as the oldest continuous 4th of July celebration west of the Mississippi River, the Independence Day event begins at 10 a.m. on the Round Top town square with opening remarks and the National Anthem.
At 10:30 a.m., the firing of the Round Top Cannon will signal the opening of the parade, which will start at the Round Top Rifle Association grounds, wind through town, and head back towards the Rifle Association Hall.
After the parade, a barbecue meal of beef brisket, pork butt, sausage and all the trimmings will be served starting at 11:30 a.m. Plates are $16 and will be sold dine-in or to go. Barbecue will also be sold by the pound at the pits.
Music will be provided throughout the afternoon by the Round Top Brass Band, the Round Top Jam Session, and Cool Freddie E and the Crew. There will also be a prize drawing, with tickets available at Round Top State Bank, Round Top Mercantile, or from any Rifle Association member.
