DPS: ONE IN SERIOUS CONDITION AFTER TRAIN COLLIDES WITH VEHICLE STUCK ON TRACK NORTH OF BRENHAM

  

Update @ 4:45 p.m.: DPS has released more information about Thursday night’s collision between a truck and a train that sent one person to the hospital.

First responders were initially called out shortly after 10 p.m. to the 5100 block of Old Gay Hill Road.

DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz reports a 2011 Ford Ranger was traveling on Old Gay Hill Road when the driver experienced an unknown medical issue and went onto a rock road on railroad property.  The vehicle then became stuck on the railroad, and it was struck by the train.

It is not known if the driver was attempting to turn around or cross the railroad track when he became stuck. 

The vehicle got pushed down into New Year Creek, where firefighters and EMS retrieved the patient.  He was flown to Memorial Hermann in Houston with serious injuries. 

Original Story @ 7:15 a.m.: One person was flown to the hospital after a collision Thursday night between a truck and a train north of Brenham.

The Brenham Fire Department says it responded for mutual aid just after 10 p.m. to the 5100 block of Old Gay Hill Road for a vehicle versus train accident. 

Units made location and were advised by the Gay Hill Volunteer Fire Department on scene that the vehicle was down in a creek and ropes were needed.

Equipment was loaded onto the Brenham Fire Department’s command truck and driven through a pasture to the creek, where the vehicle was located.  Firefighters helped Washington County EMS with the patient and carried him out to the command truck. 

The patient was ultimately flown to a Houston-area hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
