Story by Joe Alberico, Blinn College Sports Information
The Blinn College men's basketball team got back into the win column Wednesday night with an 81-66 Region XIV home win over Navarro College at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.
The Buccaneers pulled to .500 on the season at 7-7 and improved to 3-3 in region play.
Blinn trailed 42-35 at the break before rallying in the second half.
"I thought our guys kept playing hard and did a great job on the defensive end in the second half," Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher said. "Offensively, we kept moving the ball and gave different players opportunities to score."
Hot shooting from sophomore forward London Maiden (team-high 23 points on 11-of-14 shooting), 20 points from freshman guard Jakeel Registe, and a 17-point, 19-rebound double-double from sophomore forward Anthony Isaac helped the Buccaneers weather the storm and upend the Bulldogs.
Isaac registered his second consecutive double-double and his fourth of the season, and currently ranks second among NJCAA Division I rebounders with 11.2 per game.
Sophomore guard Reese Miller added seven points and five assists
Blinn led by as many as 20 points in the second half.
The Bucs shot 32 of 53 from the floor (60%) and out-rebounded Navarro 41-22.
"We told our guys that we needed this win in order to feel good moving forward," Schumacher added. "I'm pleased to be 3-3 right now and looking forward to what's next."
Blinn's season continues with a region home tilt against No. 3 Trinity Valley Community College at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Kruse Center.
