BURTON PANTHERS OPEN SEASON WITH 11-1 WIN

The Burton Panther Baseball Team opened their 2025 season with an 11-1 victory over Weimar last (Monday) night.

Burton got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning. Tyler Witt reached on an error, and Ryder Biggs was hit by a pitch. Witt later scored the first run of the game on a passed ball. Reuben Rodriguez doubled home Biggs go help Burton up 2-0. Coy Gurka singled to left field, which brought in Rodriguez. Eli Jaeger reached on single. Gurka scored after tagging on a foul ball. Brady Griffin would then triple home Jaeger to increase the Burton lead to 5-0.

In the second inning, Biggs singled and later come home on an RBI single by Brady Martin, which made it 6-0 Panthers.

Weimar got their only run the top of the third inning.

However, Burton would get the run back in the bottom of the inning. Jaeger doubled to lead it off, and then score on a single by Witt to increase the Panthers' advantage to 7-1.

In the fourth inning, Burton added another run. Rodriguez singled and then scored on a RBI double by Jaeger. That made the score 8-1 Panthers.

Burton would put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to enforce the run-rule. Griffin singled and Witt followed with a double. Mark Odom singled both of them home. Odom later scored an RBI infield hit by Houston Hodde to end the game at 11-1.

On the mound, Witt went all five innings and struck out ten batters to get the win.

Next up, the Panthers will be taking part in the Schulenburg Tournament, which starts on Thursday. They face Hempstead at 11am.
