HEMANN’S GEM LEADS CUBS TO A 2-1 VICTORY OVER LAMAR

Brody Hemann gave the Brenham Cub pitching staff a big lift last (Thursday) night tossing six shutout innings in their 2-1 victory over the Lamar Texans.

After Brenham used four pitchers in the first game of the day, Hemann battled through six innings including two bases loaded situations. He allow just three hits, walked four, and struck out seven.

The Cubs got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Brody Tucker was hit by a pitch. Caleb Maurer came in as a courtesy runner. Drake Bentke followed with a single that advanced Maurer to third. Maurer then later scored on an RBI groundout by Landry Mendoza to give Brenham a 1-0 lead.

The score would stay that way until the bottom of the fifth. Dalton Hart started off the inning with a single. Tucker moved him over with a sacrifice bunt, and Bentke would single him home to make it 2-0 Brenham.

In the top of 7th, Hemann, who had thrown 95 pitches, gave way to Brayden Steele. While the Texans did get one run, Steele was able to strike out the last batter and get the save.

The Cubs are now 8-4-1 on the season. They will face Magnolia this (Friday) morning at 9:30am. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 9:05am. Then, later tonight (Friday), Brenham plays Magnolia West at 7:30pm.
