UNEMPLOYMENT RATES DOWN AROUND REGION FOR MARCH
Jobless rates for Washington County and surrounding counties fell for the month of March.
According to data from the Texas Workforce Commission, Washington County’s unemployment rate dropped from 4.2 percent in February to 3.8 percent in March.
The number of unemployed residents in the county went down from 758 in February to 674 in March.
Employment declined slightly, from 17,129 in February to 17,128 last month. Over that time, the total civilian labor force also decreased from 17,887 to 17,802.
In March 2024, the county’s unemployment rate came in at 3.6 percent, with 622 people out of work.
The state’s adjusted unemployment rate remained the same at 4.1 percent from February to March.
Across the region, unemployment rates include:
- Austin County – 3.6 percent, down from 3.9 percent in February.
- Brazos County – 3.3 percent, down from 3.9 percent.
- Burleson County – 3.4 percent, down from 3.9 percent.
- Colorado County – 3.7 percent, down from 3.9 percent.
- Fayette County – 3.8 percent, down from 4.2 percent in February.
- Grimes County – 4.4 percent, down from 4.8 percent.
- Lee County – 3.3 percent, down from 3.5 percent.
- Waller County – 4.8 percent, down from 5.3 percent.
