BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO CONSIDER COMMUNITY ELIGIBILITY PROVISION FOOD PROGRAM

The Brenham School Board will meet Monday to consider moving forward with a federal program that allows eligible school districts to provide free breakfasts and lunches to students regardless of household income.

Trustees received information during May’s board meeting about the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program, which uses information from means-tested programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), rather than standard free or reduced-price meal applications.

According to information presented last month, Brenham ISD currently qualifies for the CEP at all campuses, and if it participates, families would be able to receive breakfasts and lunches at no cost.  Meanwhile, the district itself would be able to avoid having to use general fund balance to spend on value meals.

In other business on Monday, the board will discuss recent storm damage and the district’s emergency facilities response.  Some campuses experienced facility damage due to recent hail and heavy rainfall, leading to the relocation of some programs, like the summer meal program.

Board members will also hold a workshop for updates on the district’s finances and budget planning.  They will then vote on budget amendments and hold a public hearing regarding Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) title grant application funds.

An executive session will be held for trustees to consider the approval of an assistant principal at Krause Elementary School.

The board will meet Monday at 6 p.m. in rooms 111 and 113 at Brenham High School.  The meeting will be livestreamed on Brenham ISD’s YouTube channel.
