GRIMES CO. MAN SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS ON CHARGES OF DRUG POSSESSION, EVADING ARREST, TAMPERING WITH EVIDENCE

A Grimes County man was sentenced to prison this week on drug, evasion and evidence tampering charges.

Darrell Edwin Hemann
(Grimes Co. Jail)

35-year-old Darrell Edwin Hemann of Navasota pleaded guilty on Monday to Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, Tampering with Evidence and Evading in a Vehicle.  He was handed down a 25-year prison sentence for the possession charge and 15-year sentences for the charges of tampering and evasion.  The enhanced sentences, which will run concurrently, were due to a past felony conviction for Hemann.

The charges stem from a pursuit on October 16, 2024, when prosecutors say Hemann led the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office on a pursuit on County Road 302 and FM 1774 at speeds of over 100 mph.  The chase continued into Waller County and ended with Hemann losing control of the vehicle and striking a culvert.

At the scene, officials recovered over 13 grams of methamphetamine and other items associated with selling the drug.  The Grimes County District Attorney’s Office said Hemann attempted to discard the narcotics by throwing them from the vehicle.  Investigators also found methamphetamine on Hemann’s person.

Hemann later confessed ownership of the methamphetamine during a police interview.

Grimes County Assistant District Attorney Tammy Thomas said, “If you engage in distributing methamphetamine inside Grimes County, you can expect a prison offer from our office.  Our community does not tolerate drug dealers.”
