Progressive Health Group CEO Quentin Whitwell made a visit to La Grange this week to discuss his company’s plans to re-open the St. Mark’s Medical Center.

St. Mark’s closed back in October of 2023 due to financial issues. Progressive Health Group reached an agreement in August of this year to lease and operate the facility.

Whitwell told the Fayette County Record that they are planning on re-opening in either January or February of 2026, and that the hospital will be renamed Progressive Health of Fayette.

Whitwell said that they are looking at a staff of 75 full time workers and 75 part time workers.

They are planning to re-open the emergency room, the pharmacy, the lab, and all the imaging.

According to the Record, they are also going to be converting the old birthing center into a rural health clinic, which would be similar to having a doctor’s office inside the hospital.

The clinic will provide wound care services, physical therapy, and intensive outpatient therapy.

Whitwell added that the building itself is in fairly good shape, but that it will need a new roof and new air conditioning equipment.
