PHONE SCAMS ARE BACK IN FAYETTE COUNTY

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek is reporting that they are once again receiving several phone scam reports.

Korenek said that someone is calling citizens of Fayette County and claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office or County Judge’s Office.

The callers are stating that the person has warrants for their arrest for missed jury duty, or unpaid tickets and they are collecting fees over the phone to get rid of the warrants.

These calls sometimes appear to come from the Sheriff Office’s actual phone number.

These scammers have the ability to clone phone numbers, and they are using actual names of Fayette County Sheriff’s Office employees as well.

Korenek advised that this is not a normal practice and his office will not notify anyone via phone about warrants, or to collect any fees.

If you ever have any doubt about a phone call you receive, Korenek said to hang up and dial the Sheriff’s Office directly at 979-968-5856 or come up the Sheriff’s Office in person.

Never give money, gift cards, or any other monetary funds or bank account information over the telephone.

If you have any questions, you may contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office at 979-968-5856.
