Thursday’s luncheon, hosted by Washington County Cares, brought law enforcement officials and community members together at the Washington County Expo to commemorate the establishment of the police department on May 3, 1926, reflect on the department’s growth since then, and thank those who have been a part of that history.
Retired Sergeant Daniel Gaskamp opened with an overview of some of the department’s past and shared stories from his 37 years there. He said the department will continue to do its very best to protect and serve the public.

Boshears thanked Ron Parker and the city secretary’s office for helping to identify May 3, 1926 as the official founding date for the police department.
Mayor Atwood Kenjura commended the department on maintaining its level of service over the past 100 years, saying this occasion is “more than a milestone; it’s a legacy.”

After Kenjura’s comments, Boshears was presented with resolutions signed by State Representative Trey Wharton and State Senator Lois Kolkhorst, as well as a letter from U.S. Senator John Cornyn and a flag flown over the Texas Capitol in Austin on May 3rd.
Kolkhorst said amid dialogue around the country surrounding law enforcement, Brenham and Washington County have been consistent supporters.
According to Boshears, proceeds from the luncheon will benefit initiatives under a new program called BPD Strong, which he said will provide physical, mental, financial and spiritual assistance for members of the department.
