BARS SET TO REOPEN FRIDAY

Beginning Friday a number of businesses can reopen across Texas, including bars, bowling alleys and aquariums at limited capacity.  Restaurants can also increase to 50% capacity starting Friday.

According to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, starting Friday, bars can operate at 25% capacity under the strict health guidelines, including:

  • Dancing and other close-contact interactions are discouraged.
  • Interactive areas like arcade games should stay closed.
  • Bars should seat customers at tables.
  • Seated parties should have no more than 6 people per table, and tables should be socially distanced.
  • Staff should block off the bar itself so customers can’t sit or order there.
  • Bars should provide disposable menus and single-use condiments, silverware and glasses.
  • The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission should make sure bars comply.
  • If bars don’t follow these guidelines, the commission has the authority to suspend bars’ licenses.

Another round of reopenings will come May 31st, with youth summer camps to return, as well as certain professional sports without spectators, including basketball, baseball, football, golf and softball.

  1. This is how the Free Enterprise system works in Texas. No one has mandated these businesses open. Just as no one is demanding one patronize these establishments
Gov Abbott has wisely provided guidelines for business owners and patrons to follow.

    The choice IS YOURS.

  2. How can someone in Washington County even consider going to a bar with the threat of Covid 19 still hovering over our heads? Yes our governor has dangerously now suggested that social drinking in bars and restaurants IS legal but that doesn’t mean it’s safe for everyone. Until a cure is found these mass gatherings should be discouraged. At least the Washington County Little League is listening to Dr Loesch and has cancelled their season. Put our elderly and immune compromised people ahead of your personal desires during this pandemic, wear a mask at all times and stay inside your home please!

    1. I agree!!!! I can’t see why ppl are in such a hurry to get everything open around here. We are at close to 200 cases. This will die down if ppl just follow the lock down but this here is gonna have consequences behind it.

    2. Karen, Please feel free to stay home, But let others chose what they want to do, These bar owners pay their mortgage, Electric and other bills by the income they earn while open. as If they operate responsible , Maintain the rules set forth I see nothing wrong with them being open. To each his own.

    3. A cure? There will more than likely NEVER be a cure! We don’t have a cure for the common cold or flu, but we will magically have one for COVID? Those of you selfishly crying to stay home until YOU feel safe must fall into 2 categories……1-you are still working and the effects of this aren’t effecting you outside of some minor inconveniences. 2-you are fortune to have plenty of money to stay home for an extended amount of time and this is just an inconvenience with your “shopping” needs. Either way you have NO right to dictate to others that they should not or can not make a living for their family. Stay at home was to CONTROL the virus, not eliminate it! People have to work to LIVE!!
