The “Oh, I Didn’t Know That!” Exhibit features black inventors, athletes, civil rights activists, and others whose roots are based in Brenham and Washington County.

The museum hopes to tell the untold stories of African-American pioneers who invented and patented farm equipment, set sports records, shattered glass ceilings in Fortune 500 companies, and painted pieces displayed in the Smithsonian Museum. Through photos, memorabilia, and notable facts, the museum wants to share the stories of struggle and triumph of these African-Americans who made history.

The opening reception for the exhibit is scheduled for Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Heritage Museum’s Bus Depot Gallery, at 313 East Alamo Street in Brenham. Guests are invited to enjoy light refreshments while browsing the collection.

The exhibit will remain on display through February 28th.  Visiting hours are Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The content of the exhibit was developed by the museum’s African-American Content Committee, in partnership with the Texas Ten Historical Explorers, Inc. The Texas Ten is an organization focused on discovering the untold history of African Americans in Washington County.
