GRIMES CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE LEASE AGREEMENT FOR ANIMAL SHELTER

Grimes County Commissioners have approved a lease agreement for the building of a new county-wide animal shelter.

The animal shelter is expected to have room for up to 40 dogs and 20 cats.  The organization says it does not have a timeline for fundraising or building, as it is still waiting on approval of its non-profit status from the IRS.  The land lease will begin once building starts, and has a ten-year term for evaluation.

The land lease would have the shelter located near the sheriff’s department training range.  The organization says it chose this location to avoid coming too close to homes or proposed county buildings in the area, as well as it being better than other suggested areas for efficient drainage and waste disposal.

The lease agreement was unanimously approved by the Commissioners Court, with Commissioner David Dobyanski abstaining.  Dobyanski is a board member for the animal shelter, and says he did not want to cause a conflict of interest.
