BHS TENNIS DOWNS WALLER, 12-7
The Brenham tennis team defeated Waller by the score of 12 to 7.
Winning for the Cubs were #1 boys doubles Aren Holt/Nick Summerour 8-4, #2 boys doubles Dalton Barron/Gunnar Smith 8-2, #3 boys doubles Hunter Griffin/Spencer Flynn 8-3.
On the girls side the #1 girls doubles team of Karlie Weidemann/Kaitlyn Hamilton won 8-3.
Winning in singles for the boys were #1 Aren Holt 6-0, 6-0. #2 Dalton Barron 5-7, 6-4, (15-13 super tie-breaker). “This was a very close match and Dalton did a great job staying patient and playing well when he needed to,” sdaid Coach Roy Thibodeaux. “He had to fight off 3 match points in the tie-breaker for Waller in order to finally get the win. It was a good test of courage and determination.”
Also winning in boys singles: #3 Nick Summerour won 6-2, 7-5. #4 Spencer Flynn also won a close match 5-7, 6-0, (10-3 super tie-breaker). “Spencer did a great job playing better after a shaky start to finish the match” said Thibodeaux. #5 Gunnar Smith won 6-4, 6-3, and #6 Andrew Trostle won 8-4.
Winning on the girls side were #1 Kaitlyn Hamilton 6-4, 6-7(8-6), (10-6 super tie-breaker). “Kaitlyn played a good match against a tough opponent from Waller,” said Thibodeaux. “Kaitlyn was consistent throughout the rallies and did a great job serving and returning. For her to bounce back after losing the 2nd set tie breaker to win it in the super tie-breaker was awesome.”
Also winning on the girls side was #2 Karlie Weidemann 6-4, 7-5. “It was like déjà vu,” said Thibodeaux, “because Karlie was playing the twin sister of the girl Kaitlyn was playing. Karlie did a great job of taking control of the points and staying the course even when her opponent started playing better.”
“This was a great win for us and one that we desperately needed to solidify all the hard work the team has been putting in. We had 4 matches go into super tie-breakers that we were able to pull out with hustle and determination. If we were not able to get those it would have been a different outcome.”
Next match is October 6th at Spring Woods.
