BLUEBONNET ELECTRIC TO HOST SOLAR TOUR SEPTEMBER 9TH

Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, in conjunction with Texas Solar Energy Society and Solar Austin, will host its second solar tour on Saturday, Sept. 9.  Attendees can learn about the benefits of installing a solar energy system at their home, business or property.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. at Bluebonnet’s Eco Home, 2601 Longwood Drive in Brenham. Guests will learn more about Bluebonnet’s Eco Home, built in 2012 using state-of-the-art, energy-smart technology, including 20 solar panels capable of generating up to five kilowatts of electricity, a wind turbine capable of generating up to 2.4 kilowatts of electricity and a geothermal heating and cooling system. Maps will be available to direct guests on a self-guided tour of two nearby homes with solar installations and other energy-smart features.

The event is free and open to the public. At Bluebonnet’s Eco Home, participants can enjoy breakfast tacos, coffee and juice, and will have the chance to win a solar backpack that can charge your phone or other electronic device during an afternoon hike.
