BRAZOS RIVER CONTINUES TO RISE

  

The Brazos River is expected to reach flood stage of 50 feet near Hempstead by noon today (Monday).  At 8 o’clock this (Monday) morning the Brazos was at 49.61 feet.  It is projected to hit a level of 53.2 feet by Wednesday.  It is not known yet how the flooding will affect travel on US Highway 290.

Downstream in Fort Bend County, mandatory evacuations have been ordered for homes and subdivisions near the Brazos River.  In Richmond, the Brazos is expected to reach flood stage of 48 feet later this (Monday) afternoon.  At 8 a.m. it was at 44.22 feet, and is expected to peak at 59 feet by Wednesday.

In Rosharon, the Brazos River is already above flood stage of 43 feet.  At 8 a.m. it was at 49 feet, with an expected peak of 52 feet by Tuesday night.
