CAREY COUNSIL ANNOUNCES RUN FOR BRENHAM ISD BOARD

  

Carey Counsil, a longtime resident of Brenham and Washington County has filed to run as a candidate for

Position 1 on the Brenham I.S.D Board of Trustees in the upcoming election May 9, 2015

Counsil enters the race after much discussion with family and friends and word of encouragement from the community and teachers of the district.  Counsil has been outspoken during recent Board Meetings.  “My plan is to bring Ethics and Integrity to the Board and hold Administration accountable to the Policies enacted by the Board.  I will be a Board Member that the community feels comfortable approaching with issues and complaints.  I will be a transparent representative to allow the community to actually be aware the decisions that the Administration and Board makes on their behalf.”  Counsil was a previous Board member in 2007 when Brenham I.S.D Board of Trustees was honored as a Texas Honor Board.  “I want to bring this level of representation back to the Board of Trustees” Counsil said.

Counsil is an Economics Professor at Blinn College, owns several businesses in Brenham, as well as an active member in the agricultural community in Washington County.  He hold a BBA from Texas A&M in Business Management, a MBA from Sam Houston in Marketing, and a Specialty to his MBA in Economics from Texas A&M Texarkana.  “My education coupled with my experience make for a well-rounded decision maker and analyst of Budgeting issues that will provide an expertise to the Board of Trustees. “ Counsil elaborated.

“All four of my children attend Brenham I.S.D. schools, and I value the quality of education that Brenham provides, but it disappoints me when highly qualified teacher in our district leave.  We have lost too many educators to the surrounding community.  We need to meet the need of our students as well as show an appreciation for the work that our Faculty provides.  Our teachers need to be appreciated!” said Counsil

Counsil and his wife Rebecca (Becky) are coming up on their 20th wedding anniversary this year.  Carey and Rebecca, along with their four children, live in the Gay Hill Community where their children are active in JrROTC, Brenham Belles, Brenham Band, 4-H and Brenham FFA.

Counsil is an active member of Washington County Rotary, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a Vice President of Brenham FFA Alumni Association, and Treasurer of Brenham Belles Association.
