CUBETTES SWEEP COUGARS WITH 4-1 WIN

Meg Morris was the winning pitcher and also hit a solo home run in the third inning.

The Brenham Cubettes swept their way into the third round of the playoffs with a 4-1 win, Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The win gave the Cubettes (22-10) a 2-games-to-0 victory over the Cougars (23-6).

The Cubettes got on the board first, breaking a scoreless tie in the third inning on Meg Morris’ solo home run, her first of the season.

College Station rallied with their lone run in the top of the fourth to tie the game up at 1-1.

However, the Cubettes exploded for three runs in the sixth, keyed by Kat Marshall’s 2-run double.

Annie Cangelosi provided an insurance run with an rbi-single.

Morris would finish the game with a 2-hitter, yielding one unearned run and striking out three, while walking just one.

Morris also led the hitting attack going 2-for-2 with the home run and a single.

Kathryn Marshall hit a key double in the 6th.

Marshall finished 1-for-3, while Cangelosi and Kelly Jurden added hits for the Cubettes.

The Cubettes advance to the third round, against their district foes Magnolia West, after the Mustangs swept Lindale, 8-0 and 7-0.

The time and dates for the next round will be announced later by the coaches.

KWHI will have live coverage on AM-1280 and www.kwhi.com.

Kelly Jurden added to the Cubette offence with a hit and a run scored.
